Acids and Bases

This week we looked at acids and bases:

- We did two labs- Hidden Message lab, follow up lab (lab2)
Link to the Powerpoint Presentation
Link to the Zaption
Link to the Battle of the Ants article (difficult)- see below
Here is a video that explains the phenomenon- slow to half speed if needed.

Today, I asked you to draw a picture of the fire ants and the tawny crazy ants - what happens when they come in contact with one another?
I asked you to label it using keywords from the article:
insect (a bug, like ants, spiders… )
venom (poison)
sting (when ant puts venom into human or another insect)
acid, acidic
base, basic
battle (fight)
neutral, to neutralize (cancel each other out)

Tomorrow I am going to ask you questions about acids and bases to test your understanding (instead of a written test, it will be a spoken interview test). Please look over your notes tonight!
