Today we went over the answers to the diagram you filled in for homework and reviewed Quizlet, and spent some time going through your notes and reviewing/asking questions about volcanoes.

Tomorrow we will play Jeopardy on volcanoes as a review. Please look through your notes/Quizlet tonight to review and prepare for the game!

You will have a test on volcanoes on Wednesday.

We learned more about light-years (1 light-year = 9.5 trillion kilometers (that's 9,500,000,000,000 km)

HW: You had more than enough class-time to work on these questions today. Please finish them for homework. We will be reading through the text tomorrow as a class, and going over the answers.

Today we talked about Remembrance day. We did a listening activity where you filled in the blanks, and then you worked on making mini presentations on the symbolism of different flowers/plants. You will be presenting them on Thursday (I will give you some time at the beginning of class to finish them up.)

This whole week we've been reviewing vocabulary and talking/reading about the Inner and Outer planets. You will have a quiz on Monday on the vocabulary (see the Quizlet.) Please study!

Today we reviewed a bit on the Inner Planets, and talked about how in our Solar System, Earth is the only planet that has life. But what about the other Solar Systems in our galaxy? Or other galaxies?

How to make a PSA

We think that next summer it will be hot and dry in Richmond. We are going to make PSAs (Public Service Announcement) to explain to the public this problem and three things they can do to help conserve water.

Today we learned about Freshwater!

Talked about how only 3% of the world's water is freshwater, and 2% are in glaciers!

We watched some of this TedTalk to see timelapses of glaciers melting.

You worked in pairs to complete a reading/fill in blanks vocabulary sheet on Freshwater.

Today you read an article "From Toilet-to-tap" and answered some questions:

Would you drink toilet water?

1. Why did they need to purify (make clean) toilet water? (What conditions led to this?) 

2. Summarize the journey from "toilet to tap"

3. Does the treated water (water that has been purified-cleaned) taste bad? 

4. Personal response: Would you drink toilet water that had been purified? Why or why not?

We also watched this news story, talking about it.

You had your Water cycle quiz today and we sang the water cycle rap. :)

You finished working on the different worksheets today (cut and paste, fill in the blanks) and we went over the answers to the cut and paste and the fill in the blank activity on the water cycle.

Please study the Water Cycle! You will have to label a picture of the water cycle and answer some questions on definitions on Tuesday.

Today you wrote down as many uses of water as you could think of. The total was 13. We will do this again near the end of the unit to see if you get any more! We watched a number of videos on the topic of The Water Cycle. You then read the text (see beside) and wrote down the bolded words, gave them a definition, and drew a picture to explain it. If you have not finished, please do so by tomorrow. We then went over the pronunciation of these words!

Inventions

Today we had a mini debate over the inventions you read about this week. Which invention is better- anti-aging chocolate, or bionic eyes? I am still undecided! You all did a great job.

At the end of class we looked at this page of odd inventions and started to answer the following questions:
1) Write down one invention that you would like to own (have at your house) and why?
2) Write down one invention that you would not like to own (not have at your house) and why?
3) Which one is the strangest invention (the most weird)?
4) Which one is the most genius invention (the most intelligent)?
You will have time to finish and share your answers on Monday.
