We read the article you were assigned for homework aloud as a class, and went over the answers to the yes/no debate

We watched this TedTalk and answered the multiple choice questions provided.

Please study these Quizlets below, you will have a quiz on what we've been studying on Wednesday (we will have a review class tomorrow)

Today you made PSAs for saving water! We will be presenting the rest of the presentations on Monday so bring the device you made them with.

Homework: Please read the bottled water article and fill in the debate chart Yes/No, we will talk about it on Monday.

How to make a PSA

The example we watched: This one is about Saving Energy

We think that next summer it will be hot and dry in Richmond. We are going to make PSAs (Public Service Announcement) to explain to the public this problem and three things they can do to help conserve water.

30hands

Choose a picture and record audio
5 pictures with descriptions

(15-20 minutes to do it!)

Why do we need to save water? We need to save water because…
What are three things people can do to save water?
The first thing you can do is….
The second thing you can do is….
The third thing you can do is…
What is your slogan? E.g. “Water’s for drinking, not wasting!”

Some examples:
Take a shorter shower
Don’t leave the tap running when you brush your teeth
Don’t wash your car
Don’t take a bath
Don’t water your grass
Get energy-efficient appliances (low-flow toilets e.g.)
Don’t fill up your pool
Don’t waste water!
Don’t clean your driveway with a hose (water)
Put water in the fridge to make it cold instead of leaving the tap running

Today we learned about Freshwater!

Talked about how only 3% of the world's water is freshwater, and 2% are in glaciers!

We watched some of this TedTalk to see timelapses of glaciers melting.

You worked in pairs to complete a reading/fill in blanks vocabulary sheet on Freshwater.

Wednesday, 14 October 2015

Today you read an article "From Toilet-to-tap" and answered some questions:

Would you drink toilet water?
1. Why did they need to purify (make clean) toilet water? (What conditions led to this?)

2. Summarize the journey from "toilet to tap"

3. Does the treated water (water that has been purified-cleaned) taste bad?

4. Personal response: Would you drink toilet water that had been purified? Why or why not?

We also watched this news story, talking about it.

Tuesday, 13 October 2015

You had your Water cycle quiz today and we sang the water cycle rap. :)

Friday, 9 October 2015

You finished working on the different worksheets today (cut and paste, fill in the blanks) and we went over the answers to the cut and paste and the fill in the blank activity on the water cycle.

Please study the Water Cycle! You will have to label a picture of the water cycle and answer some questions on definitions on Tuesday.

Have a good long weekend!

Wednesday, 7 October 2015

Today you wrote down as many uses of water as you could think of. The total was 13. We will do this again near the end of the unit to see if you get any more! We watched a number of videos on the topic of The Water Cycle. You then read the text (see beside) and wrote down the bolded words, gave them a definition, and drew a picture to explain it. If you have not finished, please do so by tomorrow. We then went over the pronunciation of these words!

Here are two of the videos we watched about the Water Cycle:

In this video you explained to me what was happening
(as there are no words in the video)
 - i.e. evaporation, condensation, precipitation

The Water Cycle in rap format!
What most of you learned from this is that
The Water Cycle is continuous, it never ends!
It goes around and around.

*Note that there are a few spelling errors in the lyrics
(it is spelled Precipitation not Presipitation)

Thursday, 1 October 2015

Today you worked on a Breaking News English article titled, "Solar-powered plane makes history!" You did the activities: Synonym Match and True/False questions.

Reminder that your invention presentation is tomorrow! Please have it ready to present, practice it!

The next few days we will be watching Big Hero 6 and doing an accompanying worksheet :)
